The first step in forming an LLC in Alabama is to file a Name Reservation Request Form. It is recommended that this be done online for $28. An Alabama limited liability company is formed by filing the signed original and two copies of the Domestic Limited Liability Company (LLC) Certificate of Formation with the Office of the Judge of Probate in the county where the LLC’s Alabama registered office is located. Include the certificate of name reservation. The AL Secretary of State filing fee is $200. Send the package with two separate checks to the Probate Judge who will record it in the county and forward it, along with the filed copy to the Secretary of State.
The name of the limited liability company must end with the words “Limited Liability Company” or an abbreviation of the words (L.L.C. or LLC).
Normal processing time in Alabama is six months.
